NEW FEATURES ON PICATO:
SEARCH AND PICTURE PAGING
We got many e-mails from users asking for a search feature on www.picato.net so we are pleased to intoduce the new google search for picato (on the right-bottom of every page). It indexes all pages on the website and should be able to find all cats, tags, comments, articels and all the rest. It might take a few minutes, after a new post appears, to be indexed by google, but it already works quite well. On a sidenote, it is now possible to page trough the pictures with the "prev / next" links on top of the big picture.
ABOUT HOMELESS CATS
As you might have seen, there is now a homeless cats page on picato. Here's how it works: If someone tags a picture with the "homeless" tag, it will be shown on that page. To add a cat picture to this category, please sign up, upload the picture and then tag it with "homeless". Please make sure to include information on how to reach you in the cat's profile. One user pointed out that giving away cats for free is not such a good idea and noted: Please always charge at least 10$ - 20$, to keep vultures off who might want to sell your cat to laboratorys for experiments. It also helps to deliver the kitten to the new home, instead of letting people pick it up at your home, so you can make sure they get a nice new home and owner :)

Hi, I adopted(free of cost) a 5yr kitty early this month. The vet said that she has asthma.
Question - She doesn't purr why?? I have had cats in the past and they all purred. Is she unhappy with me? I am heart broken. Her name is Misty and I don't know what to do.
Any advice??

Some cats don't purr. I have 4 cats and one of my little boys doesn't purr but I know he's a happy boy.
You had mentioned that your cat has asthma and this may very well be why she doesn't purr.
One internet source states that purring results from "a vibration of the muscles of the larynx and diaphragm; it can also be attributed to blood flow to the soft palate at the back of the mouth causes the vibrating noise. Purring happens when nerves are activated within the voice box (kidzworld.com/article/1656-why-cats-purr).
This directly implicates physiology in determining a cats ability or inability to purr. Your cat may want to purr but experiences too much irritation in her respiratory tract to generate a purr.
What should you do? Good grief. Provide whatever medications she requires for asthma. Try to put her on a grain free diet. Innova puts out a brand of cat food called "EVO" which is the closest thing to feeding a raw food diet, without actually feeding a raw food diet. Low grain diets are good for cats with GI disturbances and respiratory problems, as fewer grains in the diet are less mucus forming. And most importantly, love your cat. Don't make her inability to purr about you. Accept her and love her.

Rosie, Thanks for letting me know that I should love my cat !! She is content and she is loved as she should be. I give the best food and health care available.
She is loved like she has never before her whole life !! Her first family had her declawed when she was a wee thing herself coz she accidently scratched one their kids !!...the next family she was with ignored her injury on her tail and used to let her out no matter what the weather condition was outside!! Misty hates the cold ..trust me I know ..though she looks like she is wearing a winter coat and mittens all year around !
Declawing for your own selfish needs is cruel...how can you let your cat out when she is declawed!! trust me she has some spunk and she is loony. She hates my 1 yr old boy (cat),..and does the weirdest things to whack the daylights out of him. he has claws and the best part abt him is that till date he hasnt used any on her ..is this how it is or is this only in my house?? My kids are loved and cherished.
I would be more interested if there is a forum to fight against mutilating cats such as declawing.
OH BTW , she purrs now ! and SNORES too !!
